It is the Church's responsibility to maintain records of baptism for future and historical use. Baptismal records may be used as alternate forms of identification in some circumstances, and may be needed for marriage, religious transfer, or confirmation at a later date. In the event that the congregation at which a person is baptized closes, the baptismal records are transferred to a regional archive center.
