Kantorei is the premiere youth vocal ensemble at Calvary Lutheran Church
Combining intensive music theory and aural skills classes for both beginners and advanced students with ensemble rehearsals, Kantorei provides youth of all backgrounds an outstanding opportunity to deepen their love of music and develop their vocal performance skills.
In the inaugural 2017-2018 season, members of Kantorei benefitted from once-in-a-lifetime experiences like:
A Hurricane Relief Concert, raising nearly $3,000 for the work of Lutheran Disaster Response following Hurricanes Harvey and Maria
Singing at the monumental commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation held at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in Manhattan
Joining broadway, cabaret, jazz, rock, and opera stars at Calvary's annual Cabaret Gala
Attending the Metropolitan Opera's production of Tosca, followed by a master class with title role singer, international opera star Jennifer Rowley.
Membership is open to all youth of the community, with dues of $125 payable in both the fall and spring sessions. To learn more, contact Director Heidi Schneider.

Kantorei Vocal Ensemble - provides all students with opportunities for creative expression with emphasis on vocal production, performance skills, musicianship, and diction.
Opportunities For Solo Singing - Kantorei Ensemble members have a unique opportunity to sing SOLO repertoire in addition to the regularly scheduled ensemble singing. These solo pieces are up to the discretion of the singer, and can be of any style. (Musical Theatre, pop, classical, folk contemporary, foreign languages, etc.) This is a wonderful opportunity for aspiring soloists to gain feedback and experience! Additionally, these solo pieces will be showcased at our concerts and events.
Sight Reading and Music Notation - Singers in Kantorei will practice sight reading techniques at every rehearsal. Kantorei singers will use MLT solfege syllables (movable "Do"), rhythmic "count-singing" techniques, etc. All singers will be expected to understand basic music notation, yet no prior experience with music theory and sight singing is necessary. All levels are welcome!
Note: Membership in Kantorei is subject to the approval of the Director, and is not considered complete until dues are paid.
